Thai people are so lucky to have had such a great king – HM King Rama 9 – who has always cared about his own people as well as the country.
Father Of The Land
His Majesty King Bhumidol Adulyadej, or Nai Luang was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on December 5, 1927. The name he was given, Bhumidol Adulyadej, directly translates as “Strength of the Land, Incomparable Power”.
He was the only King who was born abroad and grew up in a western country for some period of time where he studied. When it was time for him to succeed the throne as the monarch of the Jakri’s reign, he sacrificed his fancy life for hard work to educate his people so that they can live in an efficient and sustainable country.
God on Earth
When you think of God, people often think it’s just a philosophy or an idea. For Thai people, this word is real.
Why is it like that?
In real life, God is just a symbol of what people have believed in. In the same way, Thais have long believed that our king is the heart of all Thais.
For Thais, our King is like God on earth, we can see him everyday through his hard work which has never stopped, not even a single day. His kindness, generosity and caring can be seen from his participation through Royal projects, into which he has contributed his time as well as his knowledge in order to help Thais from suffering because of poverty and other problems. His Majesty’s development projects have brought substantial benefits and innovation such as:
- Royal Rain Project
- Moisture Retention Dams
- Royal Projects
- Pa Sak Jolasid Dam project
- Use of Vetiver to Prevent soil Erosion
- The Chaipattana Aerator
- The Rama VIII Bridge
- Pak Phanang Project
- Renewable Enrgy.
And there are many more. For example, our king introduced a comprehensive program to assist farmers and more importantly the hill tribe people engaged in unsustainable farming practices, by training the hill tribe communities in the production of various handicrafts. These programs have not only raised their income but also have benefited the environment.
King of Science
His Majesty King Bhumidol Adulyadej is a hero for farmers throughout Thailand. Thailand is a well-known country for farming but the weather is so dry in many areas which makes it more difficult for farmers to grow their crops. The Thai farmer’s lack of knowledge of how to increase their income was a major problem that concerned our King.
His Majesty King Bhumidol Adulyadej therefore invented an artificial rain by starting a Royal Rain project. The methods he developed have been used to bring drought relief to farmers and to increase water reservoirs, earning international patents and interest from foreign countries.
The vetiver grass is another example of how His Majesty King Bhumipol Adulyadej studied methods to stop the erosion of soil, and educated farmers on how great this grass is. These are just two examples out of about four thousand of royal projects, so “King of Science” is just the perfect word.
King of Music
Music is playing the main role in your daily life, can you imagine what will happen, if this world has no sound of music?
It would be too dull and boring, and there would be nothing to help people relax or help their bad mood. There are so many song writers in Thailand. His Majesty King Bhumidol was one of them. He was not only a great song writer but also a great musician. There have been so many songs composed by our king. Those songs have been so popular that they are well-known by many Thais. This shows how much our King contributed his little time left from his hard work to create such beautiful songs as shown;
- Saeng Tian
- Candlelight Blues
- Yarm Yen
- Love at Sundown
- Sai Fon
- Falling Rain
- Klai Roong
- Near Dawn
- Chata Cheewit
- H.M.Blues
- Duang Jai Kap Kwarm Ruk.
King of Sports
Have you heard of the King’s Cup Regatta?
This sport has been so popular in Thailand, what is it called? It is a sail boat race which held every year in the east coast and the west coast provinces of Thailand. His Majesty King Bhumidol Adulyadej had participated in many sail boat races. It was his favorite sport that he always joined this race. It must be so proud for the winner as this prize was given by His Majesty King Bhumidol Adulyadej. This may be the reason why it is called “King’s Cup Regatta”.
King of Kings
This is how all Thais feel about our king. Thais have seen our king contributing all his effort and strength to stop his people from suffering by educating them as much as he could. The picture of our king sat down on the ground while talking to his people was a normal picture we saw all the time in his reign of monarch.
There might be some great kings in this world who’ve been doing the same thing our king did but we’ve never seen those just yet, therefore His Majesty King Bhumidol Adulyadej is “King of King ” in all Thais’ hearts.
There are many more reasons, it would take hundred of pages and incredible time of describing how great King Bhumidol is. For me, the king is always alive in my heart and I am sure he will be in all Thais’ heart, by following his steps of being a good person.
